How This Formula Works
This reverses the kWh formula. If you know how much energy you need (kWh) and how long you have to charge (hours), this tells you the required charger power in watts. Useful for sizing a home charger: if you need to add 60 kWh overnight in 8 hours, you need (60/8)×1000 = 7,500W (≈ a 40A Level 2 charger).
Common EV Examples
Model Y Long Range (77 kWh, 8 hrs)
(77 / 8) × 1,000
9,625 W (≈40A L2)
Chevy Bolt (65 kWh, 6 hrs)
(65 / 6) × 1,000
10,833 W (≈48A L2)
Ioniq 5 (77 kWh, 7 hrs)
(77 / 7) × 1,000
11,000 W (≈48A L2)
Cybertruck (123 kWh, 10 hrs)
(123 / 10) × 1,000
12,300 W (≈50A L2)
Nissan Leaf (40 kWh, 10 hrs)
(40 / 10) × 1,000
4,000 W (L1 or 24A L2)
R1T (135 kWh, 7 hrs)
(135 / 7) × 1,000
19,286 W (80A L2)
